Hotel Shelfort is located in the historical center of Saint-Petersburg close to the most beautiful place of Northern Capital – the Arrow of Vasilevskiy Island. Rostral columns, Kunstcamera and Menshikov’s palace - in 15 minutes walk from the hotel.
Initially the district №26, where the Hotel Shelfort is situated, in the middle of the 18th century belonged to the lieutenant colonel of infantry regiment Borozdin, since 1764 it belonged to the titular counselor Turchaninov and to his daughter. In the 1800s a two-stored wooden mansion overlooked the 3d Line, there was a two-stored stony wing in the courtyard and behind it there was a small garden.
In 1900 – 1901 years by order of the owner – merchant Prokhorov - the architects G.G. fon Goli and G.D. Grimm erected a four-stored lodging house in the art-nouveau style witch stands out against the background for the treatment façade and the silhouette of the «gothic» roof. It is decorated with red facing brick in combination with natural stone, the forged railings and corbels of the balconies look spectacular against the background.
The architects worked in common not only on this project. Later they created a project of the church of Christ’s Ascension near the Varshavsky railway station. The church was erected by the spreading of religious and moral enlightenment Society in 1904-1908 years.
The expensive flats of the house №26 were rented by the privy councilor Vasilevsky – one of the big officials of the Nikolaevsky railway, by the merchant of the top guild L.L. Kenig – the owner of the cotton mill, by the merchant E.L. Bonshtedt – the managing director of the Sampsonievsky cotton mill and weaving mill.
At that time the fashionable façade and the luxurious large and sumptuous sets of rooms were as an expressive advertisement for the companies witch were located here. The export company «Vitt & Co» was one of those companies. It exported Russian timber, flax, oil and fat, seeds and fish glue, potash, pharmaceutical goods and even instruments to the foreign countries. The Join-stock company «Ruberoid» did the contracts for building. The «Еngineering company of Brauner and Elben» supplied with the equipment for power plants, factories and plants…
The Hotel Shelfort is placed just in this house. The hall of the first floor of the hotel is also decorated in the northern art-nouveau style, the dominating structure is a twisting wooden column.
Shelfort, opened in 2001 is a small cozy hotel of business class of 3 stars category with 15 rooms. We are ready to welcome small groups, individual tourists and businessmen.
The hotel is located in the historical building, constructed in 1901 in “Northern modern style” by the architects: von Goli and Grimm. The hall of the ground floor of the hotel is designed in the same style with a “coiling” wooden column as a dominant.
The name of the hotel favorably distinguishes it from other hotels. This name reflects the concept of the hotel “Home far from home”. Several English words were used inside the name: Shell, Shelter, Fort. Now this is a patented name “Shelfort” sounding simultaneously gently, cozy and originally.
The small size of the hotel provides a cozy like-at-home atmosphere, makes your stay more comfortable at a new place. In Shelfort hotel there are two two-room suites with the ancient operating fireplaces in the halls. This will help you feel yourselves much more comfortable. There are also two standard single rooms, two single comfort rooms and nine double rooms. We can offer you rooms with separate beds, and with a king-size bed. Each room is equipped by the TV and phone. We can provide a meeting at the airport or at the railway station, organize excursions, order avia-, railway and theatre tickets. We accept the basic credit cards.
English breakfast with hot dishes is served at time, that is convenient for the Guest.
There is an ancient fireplace in the hall of the first floor, this allows our Guests to spend evenings with a coziness. Constantly there are Administrators on each floor of Shelfort hotel. The hotel is provided by round-the-clock guard.
Hotel Shelfort was one of initiators of creation of club of hotels The Hotels Club.
The primary goals of this association - joint positioning in the market, increasing of a level of service, formation of positive image of members of the Club.
The main principle of The Hotels Club is creation and obligatory performance by the hotels of internal standards of service for visitors of St.-Petersburg. These standards, in many respects more rigid, than the all-Russian hotel standards are approved by the assembly of the Club and their observance allows to speak about really high quality of service. In the Club there is no problem in attraction as many participants as it is possible, more likely on the contrary. Default of internal standards can entail the exception from the Club.
Work in the Club allows to raise also an overall performance of mini-hotels on reception of greater groups. So, in September, 2005 hotel Shelfort has organized reception of 120 participants of the international congress of zoologists (TDWG - 2005) on Vasilevskiy Island , with resources of 10 mini-hotels.
