The monument was the creation of the famous French sculptor Falconet. History itself predetermined the monument and its mystical form.The Bronze Horseman was created out of sombre stone, hewn from sea cliffs by thunderbolts. From the earliest times, those who dwelt in this place were ruled by his pagan cult. The pedestal exudes colossal energy. By placing the bronze horseman on this base, the ingenious Falconet let him loose on the surrounding city – the expanses of St. Petersburg are focused on the bronze image of Tsar Peter.
