At the very centre of the present-day city, on one of the picturesque embankments stands a simple wooden cabin which is already over 300 years old. It’s all very simple – it’s really the very first structure in St. Petersburg. With it begins the history of the city, and all later buildings are interwoven with it.
Here in the cradle of St. Petersburg lived he who was none other than Peter I, the Great Russian Emperor, a lover of the simple and Spartan surroundings that are reflected here in the form of this little house.
It was built between 24 -27 May 1703, the year after the first Russian victory on the River Neva during the Northern Wars. Today, there is a museum in this place, with an intriguing exposition, creating an impression of the simple style and everyday events in the life of the creator of the city.
